Founded in 1643, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General is a judicial system that ensures that the consumers of Pennsylvania are treated fairly and properly. Its public protection division works to guard residents against telemarketing scams and identity theft. It fights for civil rights, monitors charitable organizations and protects consumers from deceptive advertising and unfair business practices. The office also maintains Tobacco Enforcement Section, which monitors and enforces settlement agreement between Pennsylvania and tobacco companies and works to prevent the marketing of tobacco to children and reduce the overall level of smoking. The Pennsylvania Office of General Attorney also maintains a civil rights enforcement section that works with state, local and federal agencies to investigate and address complaints about civil rights violations.
