Established in 1961, The ASPIRA Association is a national nonprofit organization that focuses on the education and leadership development of Puerto Rican and other Latino youths. It takes its name from the Spanish verb aspirar, which means aspire. The organization administers various youth leadership development, talent search, educational, prevention support, and attendance and truancy intervention programs. The ASPIRA Association also offers the English as a Second Language program, as well as GED preparation classes. With offices in the Latino communities of major cities in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico, The ASPIRA Association maintains a location in Philadelphia.
