Kistaco Farm
HistoryIn 1922 Claude Yerger and his wife purchased 120 acres in Kiskiminetas Township, Pennsylvania. Shortly after they moved to the farm, they named it Kistaco (Kiss/tah/koe) Farm, which is an acronym derived from Kiskiminetas Township, Armstrong County. In 1950 William Hileman, who had worked on the farm from the age of 10, went into partnership with Mr. Yerger. In 1957 Bill married the Yerger's youngest daughter, Lois Jean. In 1986 Timothy W. Hileman, Bill and Jean's oldest son, went into partnership with Bill. In 1996 Tim and his wife, Suzanne, became the owners of Kistaco Farm. In 2015, the fourth generation has started to return to the farm. They are still producing apples, cider and many other seasonal fruits and vegetables on the 235-acre farm. Stop by Kistaco Farm Market to visit and pick up their freshly-grown produce! Apples have always been the main crop, and freshly squeezed cider is made FRESH at least 7 months of the year.SpecialtiesWe are a small, family-owned fruits and vegetables farm located four miles outside of Apollo, PA. Our market, Kistaco Farm Market, is located on the farm and is open YEAR-ROUND! Our speciality is apples -- 23 varieties -- and fresh, sweet cider. We also grow blueberries, peaches, plums, sweet and sour cherries, and a multitude of summer vegetables. In the spring we offer flowering annuals -- bedding plants and hanging baskets -- as well as vegetable plants, all grown in our own greenhouses. We also produce pastured pork and broiler chickens. The store is open year-round and we carry many bulk items, baking supplies, spices, jams and jellies, local honey, and melting chocolates. We make fruit and/or gift baskets. We accept the WIC program Farmers' Market Nutrition Program certificates, credit, debit and EBT cards.
