History
Above the Valley Special Event Center was purchased in 2016 by Kit Henshaw and Harrison Schailey, local proprietors of award winning Harrison's Wine Grill & Catering in nearby State College, Pennsylvania. Formerly known as the Mt. Nittany Inn, the building has been the foundation for more than a century of joyful memories. Originating as a roadside stand for drivers making the trek over the mountain, the landmark has a long and dramatic history. In 1919, the first proprietor began selling snacks to travelers who often stopped to fill their radiators after the long, slow journey up the mountain. The original main building was constructed in 1928 and in subsequent years became a coffee shop, hotel, grill, bar and restaurant.
