History
West Linn Ki Aikido is a dojo of the Oregon Ki Society. It was founded by Chief Instructor Paul Ward Sensei (2nd Degree Black Belt) and includes two additional instructors: John Wade Sensei (3rd Degree Black Belt) and Karen Lewis Sensei (1st Degree Black Belt). The Oregon Ki Society (founded in 1974) and it's affiliated Northwest Ki Federation encompasses dozens of dojos with locations in Oregon, California, Hawaii, Washington, Canada, Great Britain and the Czech Republic. The Northwest Ki Federation was founded by and is currently led by Calvin Tabata Sensei, 8th Dan and direct student of Koichi Tohei. The Ki Society is an international Aikido martial art organization founded by Master Koichi Tohei in 1971 while he was the top worldwide Aikido instructor (and 10th Dan) at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Japan.

Our goal is to bring the martial art of Ki-Aikido and Ki Principles to the community of West Linn, Oregon. Students will learn: calmness & confidence; to be relaxed yet strong; meditation & breathing; discipline & tradition; martial arts & self defense; mind & body coordination. Ki-Aikido training encompasses several primary components: - Conflict Resolution (Non-Dissension) - Discipline & maintaining a calm mind - How to lead your opponent's mind and re-direct the attacker's energy away from you - Martial Art Techniques: Throws, Joint Locks, Strikes, Attacks, Pins, Rolling/Falling (Ukemi) - Traditional Japanese Weapons: Bokken (sword), Jo (staff), Tanto (knife) We Offer: - Kids Aikido (Beginner, ages 4-7) - Kids Aikido (Intermediate, ages 8-12) - Teen & Adult Aikido - Teen & Adult Ki Class (Mind & Body Coordination, Mediation, Deep Breathing, Health Exercises) - Women's Kiatsu (Acupressure)
