Orchid Pediatrics: Joy Eberhardt, MD, FAAP
Orchid Pediatrics, located in Portland, Oregon, specializes in behavioral and developmental pediatrics. Board-certified pediatrician Joy Eberhardt, MD, FAAP, provides care to children and teens with access to in-person care in Portland and virtual telemedicine visits for people throughout Oregon and Washington. Orchid Pediatrics is honored to offer gender-affirming care, welcoming LGBTQ+ youth and people of all races and from every walk of life. The team meets each person’s unique needs through a whole-child approach that supports them at every phase of childhood and adolescence. Dr. Eberhardt (or, as everyone calls her, Dr. Joy) got her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in Mayfield, Illinois. Then she completed a residency in pediatrics at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. Before opening her private practice, Dr. Joy had a wide range of experience, including serving as a pediatrician in child maltreatment evaluations, working in an eating disorder outpatient program, and studying pediatric integrative medicine with the field’s founder, Kathi Kemper, MD. At Orchid Pediatrics, children and adolescents receive compassionate care for the full scope of behavioral and developmental disorders, including anxiety, depression, autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr. Joy also specializes in behavioral concerns, sleep problems, and developmental delay. Having grown up between the United States and Mexico, Dr. Joy speaks fluent Spanish. Her bicultural experience instilled a deep value for diversity, equity, and inclusion. She sums up her practice style with this quote from Albert Camus: “Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow. Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead. Just walk beside me.” She values partnerships with families and patients, working together as a team to help each child and adolescent overcome their challenges and thrive.
