Oregon Occupational Safety & Health is a division of the Department of Consumer and Business Services, which is a regulatory agency that administers state laws and rules and protects consumers and workers in the areas of workers' compensation and financial services. The division works to improve workplace safety and health for workers throughout Oregon. It maintains a staff of compliance officers who inspect workplaces and provide job conferences and hazard-abatement assistance to employers. Oregon Occupational Safety & Health investigates cases related to work-related accidents, serious injuries and industrial hygiene. It monitors employee exposure to health hazards, such as noise, air contaminants and toxic chemicals. The division maintains a health laboratory that analyzes samples to determine chemical compositions and the concentrations of hazardous substances released in industries.
