History
Scott Henry, owner and founder of Henry Estate Winery, decided to begin growing grapes after a 13-year stint as an aeronautical engineer in California. Knowing well that the climate of the Umpqua Valley is similar to that of Burgundy, he and his friend, Gino Zepponi, scouted our family homestead for the best locations to grow grapes. Our entire Henry clan pitched in to plant the first 12 of what are today 40 acres of varietal grapes. Ever the innovator, Scott developed a revolutionary trellising system that is now in use at vineyards around the world. In 1978, work was finished on the winery just in time for the first crush. And in 1980, we released the first of our wines. Varietals we now produce include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Merlot, Muller Thurgau, and White Riesling.
