Founded in 1917, the Girl Scouts Columbia River Council is a nonprofit organization that offers a variety of programs for more than 12,000 girls. It offers Steps to Healthier Girls and Follow the Reader programs for girls between the ages of 5 and 17. The organization conducts drama and healthy living workshops. Its LEGO Robotics includes designing, building, programming and documentation options. The organization also hosts Girls Engineering Day and Northwest Science Expo, as well as overnights at the Oregon Zoo and the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. It also offers day and resident camps that include a variety of activities, such as fishing, archery and swimming. The organization conducts classes on topics related to communication skill development, bullying, conflict resolutions, personal safety, hygiene and domestic violence. The Girl Scouts Columbia River Council maintains a presence in Portland, Ore.
