History
I first started working with others 20 years ago as a summer camp counselor. Since then, I knew that helping people reach their full potential as a mentor, therapist and educator was to be my life's work. I've worked in mental health for over 10 years, in psychiatric hospitals with children and adults, in community mental health agencies, schools, colleges, medical clinics, and private practice. I graduated with a doctorate in clinical psychology in 2007 and started this business, Dan Rubin, PsyD, in July 2010 after completing my residency at Portland Mindfulness Therapy. I teach courses in psychology at the Art Institute of Portland and at Maitripa College. I specialize in mindfulness-based therapy, and have studied and practiced meditation for 15 years. As well as being a therapist and professor of psychology, I teach workshops to the public on stress reduction, play, creativity, and Buddhist psychology.
Specialties
Therapy is an opportunity to solve problems, to overcome difficulties you might face in your relationships, career, or emotions. Therapy is a specific relationship that is focused on making the healthy changes you want and need to make. As a psychologist, I teach skills and offer this unique relationship that empowers you to be present, confident, resourceful, and kind. You don't have to be stuck, overwhelmed, or feel disconnected from your life. Therapy can help. Much of my approach to therapy is based on the concept and practice of mindfulness. Mindfulness reveals how wellness is our natural state of being, and that everyone has the potential to reclaim and rediscover their inherent vitality, sanity, and kindness. Positive change, better emotional health, and a more satisfying life is possible because this natural wellness is always available. Call me at 503-894-3068 for a free 15 minute phone consultation.
