History
Coquille Martial Arts was established in 2000, taking up the void left when Wolfe's Karate moved to Medford. The Saxtons decided to switch from Freestyle Karate which was a blend of Tae Kwon Do and other arts, and pursue a more traditional Tae Kwon Do curriculum, while maintaining the versatility of their older style. During the learning process, the Saxtons learned Yang Style tai Chi and teach a Tai Chi forms class, and began learning systema. They host a systema study group twice weekly. They also encourage other martial arts teachers to come share their space. Capoeira is taught by Forest Freeman
Specialties
Coquille Martial Arts teaches Tae Kwon Do for all ages, Tai Chi and Systema for all ages, and capoeira. Our adult classes use a holistic method, blending traditional self defense strategies with real life self defense, from a variety of styles, so that the student learns both on the short term and on the long term. Tae Kwon Do students have the opportunity to pursue competition if they so choose, as well as learning self defense and working on goal setting and self awareness and confidence.
