The Columbia River Fire & Rescue provides a range of fire protection, medical and other community services. It offers a variety of fire and injury prevention and various other public education programs. The department organizes a fire prevention week that includes teaching the important facts about fire safety to elementary schools and preschools. The Columbia River Fire and Rescue serves an area of more than 180 square miles and a population of over 25,000 residents. The department operates more than five stations, a business office and a joint maintenance facility. It is divided into three operational shifts that handle the emergency responses of the district. The shifts are also responsible for routine duties, such as apparatus checks, station maintenance, public education talks, station tours, fire prevention inspections and preplanning. It is located in St. Helens, Ore.
