History
Sharon Henifin went through breast cancer in 1993 and was the first in her circle of friends to go through a cancer diagnosis. Then three years later her friend Becky Olson went through a more serious diagnosis. Sharon understood what it was like and was able to give Becky the emotional support she needed. Becky & Sharon started Breast Friends over lunch one day in 2000 when they realized what was missing in the breast cancer world. As friends they realized that even though the friends and family want to be supportive, they don't know how to support the women in a way she will except the help. Breast Friends came up with helpful concrete ideas how to support her and how best to offer that support. In the last 10 years Breast Friends has evolved into an organization that finds the holes and fills the needs of women going through cancer. The latest addition to the services is a workshop targeting the women who have finished their treatment and want to get back to their new normal.
