TSS Photography began operations in 1983 when Carl Hansson and Dan Burgner founded The Sports Section, a youth and sports photography company. The company opened its first franchise in 1984 and is franchised throughout more than 45 states, as well as Canada, Australia and New Zealand. With nearly 225 franchise units in the network family, the company photographs over 1.5 million children every year. In 2000, The Sports Section expanded into the special event and action photography market and, in 2003, added a new school division called TSS Photography. TSS Photography is the picture day photographer for schools throughout the United States, New Zealand and Australia. In 2005, the company changed its name from The Sports Section to TSS Photography.
