Oklahoma Blood Institute is one of the largest regional nonprofit blood centers in the United States. Located in Tulsa, Okla., the institute provides blood to patients in more than 100 hospitals in over 60 counties in Oklahoma and Texas. It offers various other services and health programs to the patients. Oklahoma Blood Institute works with several blood donors and volunteers to serve the needs of patients in the communities it serves. Established in 1977 by the Oklahoma County Medical Society, the institute maintains blood supply, provides specialized medical services, educates medical personnel and conducts blood-related research. Its services include providing educational opportunities, participating in health fairs and performing specialized testing to assist individuals in monitoring their health. The institute organizes educational lectures every year on various subjects, such as donating blood, basic blood banking, blood-borne pathogens and transfusion medicine updates.
