The Lorain County General Health District aims at promoting a healthy environment. It inspects food service operations and other public institutions as part of the licensing requirements. The district is responsible for issuing licenses to restaurants, vending machines, solid waste disposal sites, campgrounds, marinas, private water systems, manufactured home parks, public pools, spas and beaches. The Lorain County General Health District also administers immunizations, tests and treatments to prevent communicable diseases. It reports the existence of infectious diseases to the State Department of Health, as well as maintains a record of births and deaths which occur in its district. The district promotes physical activities and nutritional food intake. It additionally offers advocacy services and conducts lead poisoning and tobacco prevention programs.
