Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority
Since 1938, Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority (LMHA) has provided safe and affordable housing for the low-income citizens in Lorain County, Ohio. Federally subsidized through the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Housing Authority's Public Housing Program and the Section Eight Program provide housing subsidy in a range of apartments giving low-income individuals the opportunity to pay an affordable rent. LMHA has 675 units designated for elderly/disabled/singles located in Lorain, Elyria, Oberlin, and Amherst, Ohio. Two of the buildings located in Lorain and Elyria are designated solely for elderly and disabled. Family developments consist of more than 775 units located in Lorain, Elyria, and Oberlin, Ohio. Some of the programs offered in the past included karate classes, state tested nurses aide training, small business training, after school tutoring as well as drug intervention and prevention programs.
