The Independence Fire Department provides fire prevention and suppression and emergency medical services (EMS) for the residents of Independence, Ohio. It offers hazardous material response, vehicle extrication, and hi-angle rope, confined space and trench rescue services. The department provides 24-hour on-call services for various emergencies. The Independence Fire Department protects more than 7,100 residents and over 35,000 business professionals. Its staff is comprised of nearly 25 full-time professionals and approximately 10 volunteer firemen. It conducts training programs and takes proactive measures to educate residents on the ways to avoid mishaps in the home, school and workplace. Additionally, the Independence Fire Department administers a home safety evaluation program that includes inspection services, such as carbon monoxide test and smoke detector awareness.
