Friends of the Homeless, located in Columbus, Ohio, is a nonprofit, multiservice agency serving homeless individuals and families. Founded in 1983, it is a partner agency of the Columbus Community Shelter Board and provides shelter, support and transition services. It provides affordable housing, education and 24-hours emergency shelters for men and women, that includes a bed, linens and towels, access to shelter laundry facilities, storage of personal belongings bathroom facilities, pay phones, toiletries and an evening meal provided by volunteer groups. It also operates a certified chemical dependency treatment program and housing for the members of the program, family transitional housing units and its employment and housing resource centers located in each emergency shelter provide the basic resources to help shelter residents obtain jobs, including access to computers and the Internet, resume and interview skills development, employment listings, job placement, and life skills workshops.
