Recognized as a National Historic Landmark, this restored 1873 Pennsylvania Railroad depot is the best example of a WW2 Canteen left in the county. During WWII, 1.3 Million service members were served free food by 4000 working volunteers at the Dennison Depot Salvation Army Servicemen’s Canteen. These servicemen and women traveled by troop train and stopped at the Depot as they were going off to fight in the war. Our Homefront hospitality became so well known, that the nickname Dreamsville, USA was given to us by the soldiers! The facility includes a museum, restaurant, gift shop, theater, and rolling stock including 2 engines. Very interactive for kids with a scavenger hunt and children’s railroad experience car. The site features a large model train display, multiple exhibits in 4 restored train cars including a rare WW2 hospital train car, special events throughout the year including Polar Express, and more! When you visit, you will be walking in the footsteps of American heroes!
