Community Harvest, a program of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, is dedicated to rescuing food from grocery stores, restaurants, and other food service establishments to provide nourishing options to hunger-relief programs. With a mission to combat food waste, Community Harvest collects excess prepared and perishable food, which would otherwise go to waste, and delivers it directly to those in need within their network of hunger-relief partners.
Originally founded in 1989, Community Harvest merged with the Foodbank in 2017 to better serve individuals and families struggling with hunger in Stark County. As one of the first nonprofits to engage the restaurant industry in the fight against hunger, Community Harvest continues to involve the food service industry by collecting and donating excess food to community agencies serving homeless and hungry individuals.
