Established in 1990, the Cincinnati Police Department protects lives and property, suppresses criminal activities, apprehends and prosecutes offenders, and preserves peace through the enforcement of local, state and federal laws. It operates patrol administration, resource and information management bureaus. The department investigates and gathers evidence in cases related to vice activity, homicide, sexual abuse, and juvenile and property crimes. The Cincinnati Police Department employs various school resource officers and hosts a citizens police academy. It supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, which focuses on the prevention of illegal usage of drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The department is recognized by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Cincinnati Police Department is located in Cincinnati.
