The Cincinnati Police Department is a law enforcement agency approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. It employs more than 1,000 sworn law enforcement officers and over 280 nonsworn employees. The department has administration, patrol, resource, information management and investigation bureaus. The Cincinnati Police Department provides crime prevention, peace preservation, and life and property protection services in Cincinnati. In addition, it regulates noncriminal conduct and apprehends and prosecutes offenders. The department s criminal investigations division investigates and gathers intelligence involving vice activity, homicides, and sex and property crimes. The Cincinnati Police Department also has an intelligence unit that gathers, analyzes, stores and disseminates information concerning organized crime, terrorist activities and criminally violent groups.
