The Village of Bayville, often referred to as Pine Island, is located on the Long Island Sound facing Greenwich, CT and within the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 7,135 at the 2000 census. The village was incorporated in 1919. The Matinecock Indians were the area's first inhabitants. They sold the area to Daniel Whitehead, an Englishman, in the late 17th Century. The area was then known as Oak Neck & Pine Island until the mid 19th Century when it took the name Bayville and as such was incorporated as a New York State Village in 1919.
