The Wet Ecosystem Research Group (WERG) at North Dakota State University is a dedicated team of researchers led by Dr. Marinus Otte and Dr. Donna Jacob. With a focus on wetlands, their research spans a wide range of scales, from microscopic to landscape, and addresses important issues such as water availability and quality. WERG is currently involved in EPA-funded projects that explore the ecosystem services of restored wetlands and the impact of wetlands on water quality in entire watersheds.
Under the leadership of Dr. Otte, who also serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal WETLANDS, WERG collaborates with international partners, including a project in Mexico addressing water availability and quality in the Sierra Gorda. With a strong emphasis on student-focused research, WERG is committed to advancing knowledge and understanding of wetland ecosystems and their vital role in our environment.
