Mission Statement: Theatre Art Galleries, Inc, of High Point provides quality visual art exhibits and educational experiences for the enrichment of the total community. Housed in the High Point Theatre, which is in a wing of the International Home Furniture Center, Theatre Art Galleries ( TAG ) hosts exhibitions of contemporary visual art, from traditional to experimental. TAG has been the sole independent nonprofit provider of the visual arts in High Point since the opening of the High Point Theatre facility in 1975. This facility is In its four spacious galleries, TAG programs approximately 16 exhibitions yearly featuring solo and group shows. An Exhibition Committee determines artists to exhibit through a selection process. The Doris P Deal Fellowship Fund for Emerging Visual Artists is a biennial ( next competition is in 2009 ) grant of up to $2000 awarded to an artist in the formative stage of their career. This DPD artist plans a solo exhibition of their work in one of TAG's galleries. Artists In Cellophane's Art-O-Mat is in the Theatre lobby. This re-vamped cigarette machine dispenses original works of art for $5 instead of cigarettes. TAG's permanent collection of leading NC artists is displayed throughout the building. High Point Theatre offers a wide range of performing arts, which complement TAG shows. Exhibitions are free and open to the public.
