Operational since 2003, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms, also known as ATF, is a law enforcement agency that prevents terrorism and reduce violent crimes. The bureau s men and women regulates the firearm and explosive industries. It enforces the federal laws and regulations related with alcohol, tobacco and arson and works in cooperation with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. The bureau operates filed divisions throughout the United States. The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms offers gang resistance education and training and school safety programs. Additionally, the bureau operates a laboratory services division that provides analytical and advisory services on various scientific matters. Its laboratories are accredited by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board.
