In 1955, Harry Theodore Stewart opened up for business selling military surplus under the name Harry Stewart Surplus . The company had access to the Cherry Point Marine Corp Air Station in Havelock, NC and Camp LeJeune in Jacksonville, NC. Harry sold new and used tires and other surplus items such as army trucks and personnel vehicles. In 1960, his son Harry Glenn Stewart took over the business. They were one of few businesses in the area that carried such surplus items and continued for the next several years. In 1974, Harry saw the demand from some contractors that needed air compressors to use on some local jobsites. He purchased a couple of air compressors and started Stewart Equipment. From there, the business continued to grow. There was a higher demand for rental equipment and more types. We are constantly buying new equipment to keep up with the high demand of economic growth in Eastern North Carolina. Today, Stewart Equipment Company continues the mold of family owned businesses with the principle owners including Harry Stewart Sr. and his brother David Stewart, and their sons Harry Stewart, Jr. and Brian Stewart. Bookkeeping is kept by Harry's daughter Susan Stewart Cherry. We strive to offer great products with excellent service and continue the family tradition.
