History
In the late 1960s Everette Butler purchased a home in Flat Rock. He'd fallen in love with this area when he began bringing his son David and his other children to summer camp each year. When Everette purchased this land, it only had a few apple trees on it. Though he hadn't intended to operate an orchard, it wasn't long before Everette began exploring the idea of farming apples and by 1968 Mt. McAlpine's 70 to 80 acres were soon full of apple trees and Sky Top commercial apple farm was born - selling exclusively to area supermarkets. Soon, David and his new wife Lindsey joined the family business and eventually converted it to a U-Pick orchard and popular tourist destination. They raised their own family here and fifty years later, they continue to welcome families from Greenville/Spartanburg, Charlotte and the surrounding areas to the top of the mountain each fall.
