The Rowan County Detention Center is a more than 164-bed, direct supervision facility comprised of dormitory-style housing units. It operates through housing, food service and laundry facilities. The center primarily houses pretrial inmates, as well as individuals who await to go to the court to have their cases heard by a judge. The Rowan County Detention Center maintains over five squads that include sergeants, master deputies and detention officers. Its squads perform duties related to administration, transportation, housing and security. The center s officers are equipped with stab-resistant vests. The Rowan County Detention Center is a part of the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, which was established in 1753 and provides professional law enforcement services to the citizens of Rowan County in North Carolina.
