Established in 1822, the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries is responsible for the stewardship of marine and estuarine resources of North Carolina. It is a member of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council and South Atlantic Fishery Management Council. Headquartered in Morehead City, N.C., the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries also maintains locations in Elizabeth City, Columbia, Wanchese, Washington and Wilmington, N.C.
