History
On Davidson's Town Day in 1987, Main Street Books opened at 126 S. Main Street, the oldest building downtown. Built in 1901 and longtime home of the Brown General Store, the walls of the store are still lined with the antique shelves that held canned and dry goods decades ago. Those shelves are now filled with a curated collection of new books; novels, history, biographies, picture books, parenting, inspiration, and more. In 2016, the bookstore was renovated to freshen the walls and antique bookshelves with new paint, update freestanding fixtures, and open a seating area in back for leisurely reading, story times, and author events.
