Established in 1888, the Downtown Durham YMCA is a part of the YMCA of the Triangle Area. The organization puts Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body of youths, adults and senior citizens. Its Y-Learning program offers life enrichment skills and provides academic assistance through homework help and tutoring. The Downtown Durham YMCA offers a variety of activities, such as swimming, skill development, and arts and crafts to students in kindergarten through grade 12. The organization s Black Achievers program provides exposure to various career fields, including entertainment, business, technology, medicine, education, engineering, law, vocational and technical subjects.
