The Divers Alert Network is a nonprofit organization that provides medical emergency and research services to scuba divers around the world. The organization offers a wide range of services, such as 24-hour emergency services, diving medicine research, insurance plans, training and education programs. It offers the medical treatment of diving injuries, including decompression sickness, air embolism and pulmonary barotraumas. The organization organizes various seminars, lectures and educational courses, and publishes articles and reports regarding diving safety, medical issues and first aid for divers. The organization is affiliated with the Duke University Medical Center and has more than 200,000 members worldwide. The Divers Alert Network was established in 1980, and is located in Durham, N.C.
