SMS Catering Services, Inc formed SMS Industries, Inc to manufacture and distribute their invention of a food warmer that was completely cordless and portable. SMS Catering, which has been doing large scale events since 1971, came up with the concept so they could have the versatility of having a carving station with heat anywhere in a banquet room or even outside. The conventional food warmer must have electricity, which meant taping down power cords from outlets or noisy generators. SMS Industries was founded the first of January 2002 as a manufacturer and distributor of The Original Freeman Cordless Food Warmer and various restaurant equipment. The company is located in Charlotte, North Carolina and is family owned and operated. Through the family's commitment to quality and service, SMS Industries has quickly developed.
