Founded in 1938, the Caldwell Correctional Center houses more than 150 inmates. The center assigns a variety of tasks to inmates that include picking up trash and clearing debris. The Caldwell Correctional Center also offers several vocational and academic classes. In addition, the center provides rehabilitation, counseling, and substance abuse and drug treatment services. The Caldwell Correctional Center maintains a location in Lenoir, N.C. It is a part of the North Carolina Department of Correction, which supervises adult offenders who are on probation and parole. The department provides chemical dependency, substance abuse treatment and intervention services. It also operates various prisons that offer dental and mental health care services.
