Bread for Life Senior Pantry, founded in 2006 by Ms. R Claudette Fiskin, M.S.W., started as a small initiative to share gleaned food with neighbors in White Oak Apartments. Over the years, it grew into a ministry under St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington, NC, and eventually became a partner of the Central and Eastern Food Bank of NC, receiving grants and donations to support its mission. In 2018, the organization was incorporated as a North Carolina nonprofit and changed its name to Bread for Life Senior Pantry, focusing on serving senior citizens in need.
As Bread for Life Senior Pantry expanded, it found a permanent home at 108 N. Kerr Avenue, occupying suites K-1 and K-2. With the aim of providing food assistance to seniors, the pantry became a 501(c)(3) organization in 2019, ensuring its commitment to serving the community. Through partnerships with grocery stores and the support of dedicated volunteers, Bread for Life Senior Pantry continues to make a difference in the lives of seniors in Wilmington, NC.
