The Planning Department is responsible for drafting the town's policies in regard to land use, economic development, historic preservation, infrastructure, natural resources and community facilities.
While allowing for necessary provisions and facilities to keep pace with population growth, it also ensures that the town's development takes place within the guidelines of the Town Development Plan (a blueprint for the town's evolution), the zoning ordinance and land-subdivision regulations.
Moreover, the planners may oversee the direct construction of certain public projects such as housing complexes, commercial establishments, sidewalks and street-scape beautification.
