The Wantagh Fire Department provides fire and emergency medical services to over 18,000 homes and 700 businesses in the Wantagh area. In addition to responding to emergency calls, the Wantagh Fire Department maintains one of the only nationally recognized Hazardous Materials Teams on Long Island, as well as an Underwater Search and Rescue Team in conjunction with a 28 foot fire/rescue boat that provides emergency services for many waterways within the fire district. The department has over 230 members who respond to an excess of 2,100 alarms a year. The chief of the Wantagh Fire Department is Jeff Lindgren.
