Emergency Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, N.Y., offers a three-year residency program. The program, which commenced in 1991, graduates more than 10 residents per year, and is accredited by the Residency Review Committee. The department promotes the specialty of emergency medicine and related specialties through patient care, education, and research. The program has added new areas, such as the Center for Emergency Preparedness, Emergency Medicine Training Center and Medical Simulation, Training and Research Center. Its resident education is conducted at University Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital and the Central New York Regional Certified Poison Center and allows for a wide variety of patient interactions. The Department of Emergency Medicine at Upstate has many research activities, including serving as a primary research location for a number of national studies.
