HistoryJamestown Audubon Society was founded as a chapter of National Audubon in 1957. After incorporation in 1960, the Bentley Sanctuary was donated. In 1963 the Society bought the 189-acre Riverside Swamp, the current location of the Nature Center and grounds. The original Nature Center building was dedicated in 1976 and the addition was dedicated in 1992. Plots of adjacent land were acquired through the years, bringing the current acreage to about 600. in 2016 a new brand was launched announcing, Audubon Community Nature Center as the new name for the Nature Center and its property.SpecialtiesAudubon Community Nature Center builds and nurtures connections between people and nature by providing positive outdoor experiences, opportunities to learn about and understand the natural world, and knowledge to act in environmentally responsible ways. Audubon Community Nature Center is a 600-acre wetland preserve that includes over five miles of trails, a native tree arboretum, picnic areas, a natural play space, and educational gardens for you to explore daily from dawn until dusk. You can visit Liberty, a non-releasable Bald Eagle. Public programs, animal ambassadors, and docents may also be available to enrich your experience.
