The United Nations Development Programme is an organization that operates under the United Nations. It helps countries prevent and recover from armed conflicts and natural disasters through advocacy, capacity building, conflict sensitive development, knowledge networking, strategic planning and programming and policy setting. It advocates for nationally owned solutions to reduce poverty and promote human development. It also promotes the role of women in development. Additionally, the organization works to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS and reduce its impact. Located in New York, the United Nations Development Programme operates through a global development network in more than 160 countries. Its executive board includes several representatives from more than 35 countries around the world. The organization s executive board secretariat facilitates the work of the board by reviewing and editing all kinds of documentation. It also makes logistical arrangements for meetings and provides information and other support services to board members.
