United East Athletics Association was established in 1976 as a non-profit, self-funded organization by a handful of sports enthusiasts. It's initial goal was to offer recent immigrant youths and youths from the Chinatown area with constructive sports programs whereby they can develop physically and mentally as well as help them integrate into mainstream America. As the organization grew, UEAA was recognized as a solid component of the Chinese community in addressing the developmental needs of our young people. With the support of the community, UEAA expanded from offering strictly sports oriented programs to include community services and activities, such as summer youth recreational/educational programs and host cultural events around the Chinese traditions and arts. As the Chinese immigrant population increases, families are faced with huge challenges such as language barriers, over-crowded schools, lack of social services for the youths and senior citizens, lack of job opportunities, and the list goes on. At UEAA, our goal is to reach out and help those in this community by providing programs that will enhance their quality of life. Through these programs and activities, both the physical and mental energy of our youths and adults can be properly channeled to meet the challenges of life. As an example, in a society rich in technological advancements, UEAA provides educational programs, such as computer literacy and training, for the youths and adults to ensure they can maintain their academic requirements as well as acquire basic necessary skills to stay marketable in the workplace. At UEAA, we feel that by providing positive reinforcement and knowledge in our community, the citizens will eventually pave their own way for the future.
