FST is an assisted stretching technique unlike any other stretching modality, targeting the bodys connective tissue, aka fascia. Fascia houses 80% of the bodys nerve endings, making it almost as sensitive as skin. When healthy, fascia creates a smooth, frictionless surface that allows joints to free and painless movement. Stress, injury, or bodily trauma can cause fascial adhesion (tightening and crinkling of the fascia), however, leading to symptoms like chronic pain, lack of mobility, and decreased muscular coordination. Most massage and stretching techniques focus on individual muscles; FST looks at the body as a whole, starting at the joint capsule and focusing on planes of tissue. Essentially clearing out the cobwebs.
