For 11 years, director Pat Palfy has run the Rivertown Pre-School for area children aged 3 to 5. What makes Rivertown unique is that children attend from 7:30am to 6:30pm daily, "and they never want to go home at the end of the day," Palfy said.
Palfy never has more than 18 children at once, and she has four full-time staff members. Children take part in activities such as art, pottery, gymnastics, games and reading. They take frequent field trips to shows, museums and the aquarium. "We also take walks around town and once in a while we'll treat the kids to pizza at Slices."
Palfy has taught pre-school for 37 years and has a Master's degree in early childhood development. She promises that kids leave her program more than ready for the rigors of grade-school.
