The Catskill Mountain Lodge & Kindred Spirits Restaurant & Pub
HistoryStarted as a roadside grill with a gas pump and garage. In 2007, NYC journalist Al Guart purchased it and named it Kindred Spirits in honor of Palenville's historic role as America's first art colony. The painting, sold at auction by the NY Public Library for a reported $35 million, was a public treasure created in 1849 by Hudson River School artist Asher Durand. Durand frequently stayed in Palenville to be close to the landscapes he loved and the other painters who shared his views. The steakhouse now features art and live music in celebration of the important role Palenville played as the cradle of America's first art movement.SpecialtiesAs seen on the travel Channel!
