History
The year, we celebrate 25 years providing community and ritual for Jewish people who are intermarried, and/or non-religious Jews. We began holding services and discussions, potlucks, lectures and classes in private homes, and eventually grew to be able to rent public spaces.

What members say about The City Congregation: Isabel -I travel from Westchester to participate in The City Congregation's unique programming and school. At TCC I found a home where people could read everything in the service and believe it; they do not have to scan ahead and remain silent during descriptions of human beings as lowly or dependent upon supernatural intervention. Deb -TCC has been an important part of my life for the past ten years. I joined the congregation because I wanted my daughter to prepare for her bat mitzvah in an atmosphere that would teach her about her Jewish identity without ignoring the fact that my husband and his family are Italian Catholics. After several years of classroom and individual preparation, she had a beautiful and meaningful ceremony from which no family members were excluded. Angela: We're like a lot of mixed families. We want some sort of religion. We don't know what that religion looks like. It's definitely not our parent's religion. So what does that mean? Abigail: Having to look inside myself and articulate my beliefs and views now is something I believe will help me when it comes time to determine my goals in life and how I'll achieve them. One of the more practical things I have gained from my bat mitzvah preparation is greater ease with writing. And through the writing I've also become a clearer thinker.
