Founded in 1973, The Child School offers academic and therapeutic services to disabled students in grades kindergarten through 12. Its staff includes nurse, psychologists, hearing education, visiting service providers, guidance counselors, and occupational, speech and language therapists. The school offers a more than 4,000 square-foot gymnasium with basketball and volleyball courts, rock-climbing walls and viewing balcony. The Child School has a variety of amenities, including music room, science lab, and various computer labs with Internet access, graphic arts and music technology programs. It also has a library, a private soundproof conference room and a mock studio apartment. It provides education to students suffering from several disorders, such as exhibit perceptual handicaps, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia, developmental aphasia, and listening, speaking, reading and spelling disorder. The school is located in Roosevelt Island, N.Y.
