Operating as a non-profit organization since 1956, Plainview Co-op is a nursery school where teachers, children and parents interact to share an intimate and enriching pre-school experience. The Hewlett-Woodmere district established its early education program in 1966 and opened the Franklin school in 1983. The principal of the school is Bonnie Epstein.

The Pumpkin Patch Day Nursery School and Kindergarten is run by the Commack United Methodist Church and is located next door to the church. It began in 1973, is non-sectarian and provides nursery school education, summer camp and full-day sessions. It is licensed by New York State and serves all Commack residents.
