The Suffolk County Water Authority, also known as SCWA, is a public benefit corporation for the water customers of Suffolk County, N.Y. Founded in 1951, the authority is one of the largest groundwater suppliers in the United States. It supplies water based on the standards established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, New York State Health Department and Suffolk County Department of Health Services. With more than 50 filters, the Suffolk County Water Authority utilizes granular activated carbon systems to filter and purify water. The authority operates a New York state certified laboratory that analyzes approximately 75,000 water samples every year. It additionally mails a detailed water quality reports to customers.
